                Funerals--What do I do?

When someone passes, flowers and plants comfort us and speak to us in a way that nothing else can.  If you have ever been to a service, or a business meeting, trade show, or home, where there were no flowers or plants, you know that their absence leaves the room stark and less comforting.  Sending flowers to a funeral service or to the family at home says that you, too, feel the loss.  Living plants and flowers affirm the beauty in life, for those still living and for the beauty in the life of those departed.

There are several ways flowers and plants can be used at the time of loss of a loved one.  The family usually provides a casket spray, sometimes with a printed ribbon banner.

At the visitation or service, there are four basic ways of expressing sympathy.  First, plants, dish gardens, or blooming plants, or else floral arrangements in vases, baskets, or ceramic vases, can be provided, and will usually be taken home by a family member for a longer remembrance.  Second, sympathy arrangements of live flowers can be placed by the funeral director either on the floor or on a pedestal.  Third, standing sprays on tripod easels can be placed around the room.  Fourth, hearts, crosses, and wreaths of flowers or artificial flowers on a tripod easel can add a special meaning to the floral tribute. Printed ribbon banners can also be added to these.

For that special moment at the graveside service, flowers (such as a single red rose) can be carried by family members, to be dropped on the casket as a parting gesture. These can be provided by the family or a caring friend.

Sending flowers to the home after the service, when the service flowers have started to wilt and the memory is still fresh, can be especially welcome as a way of saying that you, too, remember.  Plants, blooming plants, dish gardens, and floral arrangements in vases, baskets, or ceramic vases, are all appreciated at this time.

Floral remembrances can be sent to the gravesite or mausoleum in several forms. These include live floral cemetery bouquets, artificial floral bouquets and wreaths, and custom bouquets for that extra touch.  The Cherry Blossom Florist delivers floral remembrances at the end of the week at a special reduced delivery cost, any other weekday at a low delivery cost, and will pre-book with you for up to a year for your special days.
